I decided to observe The Purple Zebra and it's a boutique here in Bloomsburg. It is mainly directed towards young women. I chose there because I feel that many college girls go there to go shopping since it's so close to campus and the prices were fairly cheap. Prices are important because the stereotype of a college student is that they are broke. I went there in the afternoon. When i arrived there was a couple girls in the store along with the owner. I noticed the owner sat behind the counter and was making some clothing. Then the other customers were chatting fairly quiet to each other. They were college students. I knew that because they were wearing Bloomsburg clothing The longer I spent time there more and more girls came in and I assumed after class because they had their big purses or bookbags. The location of the store is perfect because it is so close to campus and even people who live off campus it's easy to get to because it is located on Main Street. When I was there and when more people came into the store I noticed the noise volume increased and you could hear more phones going off than before from people recieving text messages or phone calls.

What does the data you collect suggest to you about the literacy practices of that community?
When I was in there the owner stayed to herself and didn't really say much. She just greeted customers walking in her store and answered questions. Customers in the store gossiped to their friends while texting on their phones.
